How To Properly Prepare and Implement A Construction Fire Safety Plan For An Unexpected Site Shutdown

In response to COVID-19, construction site shutdowns are taking place all over the country. Have you provided the necessary mitigation to reduce fire hazards to abutters? Have you created a means to communicate these hazards as well as the available fire protection features, access, and wayfinding to first responders?

This webinar will highlight the recommended process for general and sub-contractors to document and implement a modified construction fire safety (i.e Impairment) plan in this shutdown work environment. Attendees will learn which critical features of the Plan, as driven by NFPA 241, require inclusion in a resubmission to the AHJ. Additionally, recommended safeguards for implementation will be reviewed for both the erection of new buildings as well as tenant improvement projects in existing, occupied buildings. Lastly, we will cover the continued role of the Owner/Developer, who even in a shut-down state must clearly relay their expectations as to how the GCs leave their project sites. We will also discuss strategies for use of automatic systems during a shutdown of unknown duration, such as sprinklers or make-safe fire alarm systems and technologies

Presented by: Peter Harrod, P.E.

Peter is a Principal with Code Red Consultants, where he prepares NFPA 241, Construction Fire Safety/Impairment Plans for building owners and general contractors for successful submission to the AHJ. He assists in minimizing fire and life safety risks to contractors, building occupants, and first responders while at the same time providing the code required documentation necessary to limit delays with issuance of building permits and/or phased occupancy. By understanding the intent of the code along with the common concerns of building and fire departments, Code Red works hand in hand with authorities to develop equivalent means of compliance tailored to the specific challenges of unique projects.
